Today in the United States, we elect who will be our president for the next 4 years. We are tremendously blessed to live in a country where the people may select the leader of their choice. I encourage you to get to the polls today and vote. The Bible calls for us to submit to authority, so if we as a nation get to choose who we are to submit to, let us strive to do so.
Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men. I Peter 2:13-15
Of course, there are exceptions when man's law violates God's law. We have numerous examples in the Bible, such as Daniel, the apostles in Acts and even Jesus, where God's law is put before man's law if they are in conflict.
"Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men." Acts 5:29
But most of all, I encourage all to make today a very prayerful decision. Find out what you can about the candidates, and select the one that you believe will set forth the principles of the Bible in his daily work. While the president of our choice may or may not be elected today, we should remain in prayer each day for all those in authority to make the right decisions.
I exhort, therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior. I Timothy 2:1-3
