"Praise ye the Lord. Praise, O ye servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord. Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth, and forevermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised." Psalms 113:1-3
The praises of God in Psalms can be so uplifting. The writers are filled with such joy as they proclaim the truth of the Lord. I think praise is one of the areas I have more trouble with. It isn't because I do not want to praise God but simply because "praise" has always seemed like a harder concept. It seems like I have always read that praise is not the same as thanksgiving, so I was unsure how to go about it. I struggled to praise God without using the words thank, appreciate, etc. However, after looking over the meanings of the words, praise can indeed include thanksgivings.
Several different words in the Old Testament are translated as praise and here are some of their meanings from Strong's Concordance: revere or worship with extended hands, a celebration of thanksgiving for harvest, laudation-specifically a hymn, sing forth praises/psalms, kneel, bless, thank. In the New Testament, word meanings include a story, to bless, thank, glory, worship, sing a hymn, celebrate God in song.
Everyday ways to praise God:
"Honor all men." I Peter 2:17
